Is being a flight attendant a respectable job?

I am a bit of a gypsy. I cant stay in one place for too long. I have gone to four different high schools and lived in 6 different states throughout my life. And i have loved every part of it. I am going to college this fall and i am trying to find the right career path. this brings me to my question. Is being a flight attendant respectable enough? I have always been interested in it but my parents have told me it is just a glorified waitress in the sky. should i say screw them and go for the life that would make me happy or are they right and i am just being naive and it is not worth going through four years of college just to be a flight attendant?
