What is the Food,Restaurant &Lodging career like in the u.s. navy?

I plan to become a chef one day and to help pay for college tuition I want to join the U.S. Navy my career choice being Food, Restaurant &Lodging. I would like to know if it is just a glorified cafeteria lady or something that will really help me in Culinary arts.
